Profile Of Prof (DR.) ANIL KUMAR
Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar is the founder Vice Chancellor of Al-Falah University. Before joining Al Falah, he was the Director of Laser Science and Technology Centre, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Delhi.
Dr Anil Kumar had been a first-class scholar throughout his education career. He was a gold medallist graduate, and he did his Ph.D. at an early age of 23 years, from University of Delhi in Microwave Physics under the supervision of renounced Prof. G P Srivastava and Prof P C Mathur of Delhi University. His Ph.D. work was published in 5 international Journals including Journal of Chemical Physics USA, IEEE transaction. In 1975, he was invited as Leverhulme Commonwealth Visiting Fellow for Post-Doctoral work with well-known Prof. J Sheridan, fellow Royal Society at School of Physical and Molecular Sciences, University College on North Wales (now University of Bangor) UK. He made significant contribution in the field of Microwave Spectroscopy and presented his work in Germany.
After returning from UK in 1979, Dr Anil Kumar joined DRDO as Scientist ‘C’ at DEAL, Dehradun. Later in 1981, he moved to Defence Science Centre, (Now it is known as LASTEC) Metcalfe house, Delhi, and worked for 27 years in various areas of Lasers and Laser Devices including Fibre Optic Gyroscope (FOG) and Ring Laser Gyroscope (RLG) for LCA and Missiles, Laser Intruder Alarm System for BSF, High Power Lasers such as COIL, GDL, HCSSL and laser materials.
Dr Anil Kumar joined Ministry of External Affairs, DISA Division as Director (S & T) on deputation from DRDO for two years between 2001-02,In 2003, he was promoted to Scientist G (Govt. of India Joint Secretary level). He worked on Heat Capacity Solid State Lasers and Liquid Oxygen Lasers and published finding in US journals
After being appointed as Director of Laser Science and Technology Centre January 2005 he gave a boost to high power laser programme with Russian Collaboration, He organised and hosted DRDO Director Conference for four years from 2005 to 2008 and NLS2008
Post Retirement from DRDO, he joined of Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology as Director and helped the institute to become an Autonomous College of M D University. He is also instrumental in getting the college Grade “A” by NAAC. He has later worked with his team along with the Mr J A Siddiqui, Chairman of Al Falah Charitable trust, to make AFSET to be an University in 2014.
During his entire carrier he has been a member of many national committees and as part of Indian delegations, he travelled to US, and Israel and he led the Delegation to Russia and Armenia.
He is a member of many professional bodies including OSA, ILA, IEEE, and He is a Fellow of IETE since the age of 37.
He has guided 17 students to their PhD from Jamia Milia Islamia, M D University Rohtak and Al Falah University. He is also a Ph.D. examiner of Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia New Delhi, Jamia Hamdard and Allahabad University. He has published over 115 research papers in the journals all over the world. He has been in advisory board of many national and international conferences and invited to deliver special talks. He is also referee for many journals including Optics and Laser Technology (UK)..
